The Segna Collection

The Segna Collection

Picture
The Segna Collection is a remarkable assemblage of 144 original, personally signed photographs of the 1930s and 1940s, featuring 112 Hollywood stars of the era. While primarily composed of 8x10 prints, it also includes a selection of 4x6 and 5x7 photographs, adding variety and visual interest. Carefully preserved in their original envelopes and stored within a century-old suitcase—part of my family's migration from Trentino-Alto Adige in Italy—this collection offers a rare and intimate glimpse into Hollywood’s Golden Age. The suitcase itself carries a meaningful story. Having traveled across continents during my family’s immigration journey, it now safeguards these treasured photographs, making it a symbolic vessel of heritage and history.

The collection features signatures from legendary icons such as Clark Gable, Ingrid Bergman, Betty Grable, Ronald Reagan, and Frank Sinatra—some of the most celebrated figures of the era—as well as signatures from lesser-known but equally intriguing actors like Dianna Barrymore, Evelyn Ankers, June Haver, and Cornel Wilde.

What makes this collection truly extraordinary is its deeply personal origin. It was assembled by my mother during her childhood and early teens, a time when these actors visited my grandparents’ roadside motel, gas station, dance hall, and family Italian bar, located midway between Hollywood and Palm Springs in the 1940s. She had the rare opportunity to meet many of these stars in person, writing to the studio, and maintain correspondence with many of them through letters, forging heartfelt connections to Hollywood’s glamour and charm.

With a diverse roster of 112 different performers—many of whom are rare or less commonly collected signatures—The Segna Collection embodies both historical significance and personal nostalgia. Whether for the seasoned collector or the Hollywood enthusiast, this collection is a truly unique and invaluable treasure, rich with cultural legacy, family heritage, and treasured memories.
