Education and Professional Recognitions
He holds graduate degrees from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom—studying at New College and Mansfield College—as well as from George Washington University’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, and the USC Price School of Public Policy. Rather than pursuing degrees for their own sake, he approached each opportunity as a dedicated scholar—investing significant effort into research, learning, and advancing his field. This diverse and multidisciplinary educational journey has provided him with a broad perspective on cognitive neuroscience, public health, and policy, enabling him to integrate insights across fields to inform his research and practice. His work applies neuroscience principles to better understand how early experiences shape brain development and behavior, ultimately informing strategies to prevent trauma and health problems. In addition to his academic achievements, he is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), certified in Trauma Model Therapy, and a Child Passenger Safety Technician. Recently, he was inducted into the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health, recognizing his contributions to the field. Translating Science into Stories and Insights
His journey as a writer began in high school, where he developed a passion for creative writing inspired by his father. This interest continued through his studies at Oxford, where he became fascinated with translating complex scientific and neuroscience research into accessible language. His goal is to bridge the gap between science and everyday understanding—recognizing that our traditions, history, and past experiences profoundly influence our brains and choices. By making scientific insights understandable and relevant, he aims to empower parents, children, scholars, professionals, and communities to better grasp how our backgrounds shape our behavior—and how we can use this knowledge to foster healthier, more informed societies. In addition to his scientific research and health education publications, Dr. DeCarli writes creative stories for children that incorporate essential health and safety tips. Through engaging narratives, he seeks to educate young readers about important life skills in a fun and memorable way. Beyond his writing, Dr. DeCarli serves on editorial review boards for several peer-reviewed scientific journals, contributing to the advancement and integrity of research in his field. This involvement underscores his commitment to maintaining high standards in scientific publishing and staying actively engaged with the latest developments in health and science. |
